Thoughts on the Alphabet and Law

What use is the alphabet? When I was a child I was told it was my ticket to the future. I was expected to eat the alphabet, to build my towers with the alphabet, and to arrange them on the refrigerator. When I went to school I struggled with phonics, handwriting and then reading and went home feeling like I would never get there. Then, of all things, my progress in school was measured by the alphabet. One day it all came together. Now I don’t even see the individual letters. I just read. I am free.

What use is the law? When I first met Christ, I was told it was my ticket to an eternal future. I memorized it and tried my best to keep it. I often failed and felt guilty. It measured my worthiness for heaven, and I always came up short. Then, one day I accepted Jesus Christ as my Savior and it all came together. Now I just live. I am free.

We can no more get rid of the law than we can get rid of the alphabet. Maturity just changes our focus. They become an integral part of how we think. Natural like.

Galatians
3:22 But the scripture hath concluded all under sin, that the promise by faith of Jesus Christ might be given to them that believe.
3:23 But before faith came, we were kept under the law, shut up unto the faith which should afterwards be revealed.
3:24 Wherefore the law was our schoolmaster [to bring us] unto Christ, that we might be justified by faith.
3:25 But after that faith is come, we are no longer under a schoolmaster.
3:26 For ye are all the children of God by faith in Christ Jesus.
3:27 For as many of you as have been baptized into Christ have put on Christ.
